It is a truism of marketing education that marketing can’t create a need, but many marketing campaigns are based on creating an awareness of a product and the desirability of owning that product. What is important is that this _awareness creates the need. S_ome common strategies for creating an awareness of the product and giving it a context that stimulates a desire to own it are:
Brand managers are responsible for developing and maintaining the reputation and integrity of a brand, and for identifying new marketing opportunities that will serve to strengthen the brand. They analyze data provided by market research analysts and use such information to guide market research teams. When a company needs to develop a vision for a brand, or brainstorm ideas for a new ad campaign, they turn to a brand manager for creative input and plans.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment of marketing managers is expected to grow 13 percent through 2022, about as fast as the average for all other occupations. The field of digital media marketing, especially, should take off as consumers get more comfortable with making online purchases, and use websites and social media to make buying decisions.
Even when the state of the economy fluctuates, the demand for marketing professionals often stays relatively steady. Companies have ongoing needs for marketing experts who can develop sales and advertising strategies, solve complex problems, and generate new ideas to promote products and services. While many marketing professionals obtain a degree in business with a marketing major, it’s not the only way into the field. For example, some larger companies and corporations offer exclusive marketing training programs for college graduates so they can gain hands-on experience in the field and grow with the company.
This refers to how the product gets to the customer; the distribution channels and intermediaries such as wholesalers and retailers who enable customers to access products or services in a convenient manner. This third P has also sometimes been called Place, referring to the channel by which a product or service is sold (e.g. online vs. retail), which geographic region or industry, to which segment (young adults, families, business people), etc. also referring to how the environment in which the product is sold in can affect sales.
Marketing researchers use statistical methods (such as quantitative research, qualitative research, hypothesis tests, Chi-square tests, linear regression, correlation coefficients, frequency distributions, Poisson and binomial distributions, etc.) to interpret their findings and convert data into information.
Marketing research, conducted for the purpose of new product development or product improvement, is often concerned with identifying the consumer’s unmet needs.  Customer needs are central to market segmentation which is concerned with dividing markets into distinct groups of buyers on the basis of “distinct needs, characteristics, or behaviors who might require separate products or marketing mixes.”  Needs-based segmentation (also known as benefit segmentation) “places the customers’ desires at the forefront of how a company designs and markets products or services.”  Although needs-based segmentation is difficult to do in practice, has been proved to be one of the most effective ways to segment a market.  In addition, a great deal of advertising and promotion is designed to show how a given product’s benefits meet the customer’s needs, wants or expectations in a unique way.
Generally, corporations are required to pay tax just like “real” people. In some tax systems, this can give rise to so-called double taxation, because first the corporation pays tax on the profit, and then when the corporation distributes its profits to its owners, individuals have to include dividends in their income when they complete their personal tax returns, at which point a second layer of income tax is imposed.
To overcome the deficiencies of the 4 P model, some authors have suggested extensions or modifications to the original model. Extensions of the four P’s include “people”, “process”, and “physical evidence” and are often applied in the case of services marketing Other extensions have been found necessary in retail marketing, industrial marketing and internet marketing:

The ‘marketing concept’ proposes that in order to satisfy the organizational objectives, an organization should anticipate the needs and wants of potential consumers and satisfy them more effectively than its competitors. This concept originated from Adam Smith’s book The Wealth of Nations, but would not become widely used until nearly 200 years later. Marketing and Marketing Concepts are directly related.

In order to protect trade secrets, companies may require employees to sign noncompete clauses which will impose limitations on an employee’s interactions with stakeholders, and competitors.

A 2011 meta analyses has found that the factors with the greatest impact on sales performance are a salesperson’s sales related knowledge (knowledge of market segments, sales presentation skills, conflict resolution, and products), degree of adaptiveness (changing behaviour based on the aforementioned knowledge), role clarity (salesperson’s role is to expressly to sell), cognitive aptitude (intelligence) and work engagement (motivation and interest in a sales role).

A company limited by guarantee. Commonly used where companies are formed for noncommercial purposes, such as clubs or charities. The members guarantee the payment of certain (usually nominal) amounts if the company goes into insolvent liquidation, but otherwise, they have no economic rights in relation to the company. This type of company is common in England. A company limited by guarantee may be with or without having share capital.

In order to determine what you should be selling, you must understand your target customer’s needs and then tailor your product to meet those needs. The more you are able to fulfill your customers’ expectations, the better the chances that they will buy from you, recommend you to others and come back again in the future.

The many facets of marketing allow professionals to branch out into a number of different areas, developing specialized skills in areas such as publicity and public relations, market research, online marketing, advertising, and sales management. In 2014, a Forbes magazine article predicted digital marketing trends for 2015 and beyond, highlighting that traditional marketing channels will experience more overlap and that digital marketing will grow rapidly as it develops in conjunction with technology.
Thanks to such a wide variety of professions that make use of a marketing education, these degrees can be found at the associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate levels. While all teach marketing concepts, each degree is tailored for particular objectives in order to most effectively prepare students for any number of marketing careers, which can range from sales worker to college professor.
New or existing product: If your product is a new product, you will have to create a market demand for it (convince people that they need it). But what does a marketer do? Unfortunately there isn’t one set job description for everyone in this position. As social media has evolved and has become an important part of the consumer experience, successful companies have demonstrated a continuous involvement in social media, participating with timely campaigns aimed at their audiences. From a model-building perspective, the 4 Ps has attracted a number of criticisms. Well-designed models should exhibit clearly defined categories that are mutually exclusive, with no overlap. Yet, the 4 Ps model has extensive overlapping problems. Some of the Ps are only defined in vague terms. Several authors stress the hybrid nature of the fourth P, mentioning the presence of two important dimensions, “communication” (general and informative communications such as public relations and corporate communications) and “promotion” (persuasive communications such as advertising and direct selling). Certain marketing activities, such as personal selling, may be classified as either promotion or as part of the place (i.e. distribution) element.  Some pricing tactics such as promotional pricing can be classified as price variables or promotional variables and therefore also exhibit some overlap.

Generally there are three ways of doing this: the customer-driven approach, the sense of identifying market changes and the product innovation approach.

The Economist reported a recent conference in Rome on the subject of the simulation of adaptive human behavior. It shared mechanisms to increase impulse buying and get people “to buy more by playing on the herd instinct.” The basic idea is that people will buy more of products that are seen to be popular, and several feedback mechanisms to get product popularity information to consumers are mentioned, including smart-cart technology and the use of Radio Frequency Identification Tag technology. A “swarm-moves” model was introduced by a Florida Institute of Technology researcher, which is appealing to supermarkets because it can “increase sales without the need to give people discounts.”
Marketing is a crucial aspect for any organization, acting as a link to customers, providing external perspective, steering innovation and growth, and driving revenue, value, and loyalty. Marketers ensure that organizations understand customers and society.
Many businesses are operated through a separate entity such as a corporation or a partnership (either formed with or without limited liability). Most legal jurisdictions allow people to organize such an entity by filing certain charter documents with the relevant Secretary of State or equivalent and complying with certain other ongoing obligations. The relationships and legal rights of shareholders, limited partners, or members are governed partly by the charter documents and partly by the law of the jurisdiction where the entity is organized. Generally speaking, shareholders in a corporation, limited partners in a limited partnership, and members in a limited liability company are shielded from personal liability for the debts and obligations of the entity, which is legally treated as a separate “person”. This means that unless there is misconduct, the owner’s own possessions are strongly protected in law if the business does not succeed.
Marketing degrees are generally focused on accomplishing two primary goals: Gaining leadership or management skills and knowledge, and obtaining education in specialized areas of marketing. There are several types of master’s degree available, such as a Master of Science (MS) in marketing or a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a marketing concentration. Either degree will help with professional advancement, though the MBA might be better suited for advancements involving management responsibility.
Individuals with strong planning and communication skills can excel in a career as an advertising manager. Advertising managers are in charge of communicating with clients, mapping out advertising strategies and timelines, preparing advertising budgets, and negotiating contracts for media placement. They often travel to trade shows and conventions, and to meet with clients to negotiate contracts.
