Accounting is the measurement, processing and communication of financial information about economic entities such as businesses and corporations. The modern field was established by the Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli in 1494. Accounting, which has been called the “language of business”, measures the results of an organization’s economic activities and conveys this information to a variety of users, including investors, creditors, management, and regulators. Practitioners of accounting are known as accountants. The terms “accounting” and “financial reporting” are often used as synonyms.
If you’re creative and driven, a career in a marketing related field may be a good option for you. Many related fields have lucrative salaries with positive outlook for job growth. The graph below demonstrates the information as well as the education and training required.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment of marketing managers is expected to grow 13 percent through 2022, about as fast as the average for all other occupations. The field of digital media marketing, especially, should take off as consumers get more comfortable with making online purchases, and use websites and social media to make buying decisions.
Companies are also sometimes distinguished for legal and regulatory purposes between public companies and private companies. Public companies are companies whose shares can be publicly traded, often (although not always) on a stock exchange which imposes listing requirements/Listing Rules as to the issued shares, the trading of shares and future issue of shares to help bolster the reputation of the exchange or particular market of an exchange. Private companies do not have publicly traded shares, and often contain restrictions on transfers of shares. In some jurisdictions, private companies have maximum numbers of shareholders.

Even when the state of the economy fluctuates, the demand for marketing professionals often stays relatively steady. Companies have ongoing needs for marketing experts who can develop sales and advertising strategies, solve complex problems, and generate new ideas to promote products and services. While many marketing professionals obtain a degree in business with a marketing major, it’s not the only way into the field. For example, some larger companies and corporations offer exclusive marketing training programs for college graduates so they can gain hands-on experience in the field and grow with the company.
Entertainment companies and mass media agencies generate profits primarily from the sale of intellectual property. They include film studios and production houses, mass media companies such as cable television networks, online digital media agencies, talent agencies, mobile media outlets, newspapers, book and magazine publishing houses.

An associate degree in marketing could be a solid choice for those who want to learn about marketing, but don’t want to commit to a full bachelor’s degree and/or would like to begin working as soon as possible. Depending on the program, an associate degree can allow graduates to begin working within two years after high school, sometimes even less. And if the students decide to get a bachelor’s degree, most if not all of the associate degree credits will count toward that degree.

Test your product: So, you understand who your prospective customers are and you’ve done some research on their needs. You’ve designed a product to meet their needs. But have you tested it? Sometimes, there could be something (big or small) about your product that put people off and that would limit its success in the marketplace. Marketing degrees are not only found at multiple levels, but with varying concentrations and opportunities for specialization. Some degrees are for entry-level positions and provide a solid foundational knowledge base for any number of marketing careers. Other degrees are more specific, such as the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), which is targeted toward research and teaching, and offer specialty areas such as behavioral and quantitative marketing. Many of these unique marketing degrees found at the graduate level also prepare students for leadership and management roles upon graduation.

Generally there are three ways of doing this: the customer-driven approach, the sense of identifying market changes and the product innovation approach.
The message that you use and the brand image that you develop are critical to getting people to know and like your product. Your message needs to convince consumers that they need or want your product, and that it will bring them value. Your brand has to be engaging enough that they remember it and think of your business and product when making purchasing decisions or recommending products to their friends.

This refers to the process of setting a price for a product, including discounts. The price need not be monetary; it can simply be what is exchanged for the product or services, e.g. time, energy, or attention or any sacrifices consumers make in order to acquire a product or service. The price is the cost that a consumer pays for a product–monetary or not. Methods of setting prices are in the domain of pricing science.

A number of scholars and practitioners have argued that marketers have a greater social responsibility than simply satisfying customers and providing them with superior value. Instead, marketing activities should strive to benefit society’s overall well-being. Marketing organisations that have embraced the societal marketing concept typically identify key stakeholder groups such as employees, customers, and local communities. They should consider the impact of their activities on all stakeholders. Companies that adopt a societal marketing perspective typically practice triple bottom line reporting whereby they publish social impact and environmental impact reports alongside financial performance reports. Sustainable marketing or green marketing is an extension of societal marketing.

The Doctor of Philosophy is the highest educational training an individual can get in marketing. While it may be prestigious, it’s not for everyone. Many upper level leadership or management positions do not require a PhD degree. However, if an individual seeks to teach at the college level, or wants to focus on marketing research, a PhD makes sense.

Organizational orientation: In this sense, a firm’s marketing department is often seen as of prime importance within the functional level of an organization. Information from an organization’s marketing department would be used to guide the actions of other department’s within the firm. As an example, a marketing department could ascertain (via marketing research) that consumers desired a new type of product, or a new usage for an existing product. With this in mind, the marketing department would inform the R&D department to create a prototype of a product/service based on consumers’ new desires.

We recently had some flyers and contracts sent to BubbleUP for printing. I talked to Angie about what the company needed and what we were expecting, she responded right away with options, suggestions and prices. After I sent an email to approve the quote, I had an email the next day saying the printing was ready for pickup, what a nice surprise. Marketing research, conducted for the purpose of new product development or product improvement, is often concerned with identifying the consumer’s unmet needs.  Customer needs are central to market segmentation which is concerned with dividing markets into distinct groups of buyers on the basis of “distinct needs, characteristics, or behaviors who might require separate products or marketing mixes.”  Needs-based segmentation (also known as benefit segmentation) “places the customers’ desires at the forefront of how a company designs and markets products or services.”  Although needs-based segmentation is difficult to do in practice, has been proved to be one of the most effective ways to segment a market.  In addition, a great deal of advertising and promotion is designed to show how a given product’s benefits meet the customer’s needs, wants or expectations in a unique way.
Individuals with strong planning and communication skills can excel in a career as an advertising manager. Advertising managers are in charge of communicating with clients, mapping out advertising strategies and timelines, preparing advertising budgets, and negotiating contracts for media placement. They often travel to trade shows and conventions, and to meet with clients to negotiate contracts.
A relatively new form of marketing uses the Internet and is called Internet marketing or more generally e-marketing, affiliate marketing, desktop advertising or online marketing.
